Easy as Pie - the FAME database


The FAME database allows you to manipulate company information as PIE Charts. Depicted on the left are the Top Ten Airline Companies in the UK. If you want advice on how to do this contact me.

People behind the Companies...


If you know the name of a company's CEO or head honcho this can be a great way to find out about the company's policies and directions using the Newsbank database.
Here's a few I tried earlier :

Terry Leahy ( Tesco CEO)
This week's Mary Portas article 'Shop !' is a reflective one ( Telegraph Magazine 13th March ). Surprisingly of the numerous businesses that Mary has looked at in these excellent pieces, only two have disappeared ....

Browsing through a box of these in the Social Learning Centre may give you some ideas of the type of material which is being written about.

UK Brands an Intantigible assets


We had trouble finding UK companies the other day when a group were looking for material on brands and other intantigible assets.
Marketline database is useful here. You can select from over 2,000 UK companies under the country proile for the UK.
Clarks Shoes is a surprisingly big company, and we recognise their familar logo.

UK Companies Case Studies


If your topic asks you to choose a UK company for a case study I think you will find plenty of examples on this site :
Don't become obsessed with witing solely facts about your chosen example though. Your lecturers will expect you to relate the case studies to academic theory from sources such as Business Source Premier.
